বিচার বিভাগ সংস্কার কমিশনের কাজের অগ্রগতি সম্পর্কে এ উপদেষ্টা বলেন, কমিশন যেভাবে অগ্রসর হচ্ছেন, তাতে আমি খুবই আশাবাদী হয়েছি। আমার কাছে মনে হয়েছে, তারা যেমন বিচার বিভাগের প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে কাজ করছেন বা স্বপ্ন দেখছেন, তা যদি সত্যিই করা যেত তাহলে সম্ভবত আমাদের বিচারাঙ্গনে সমস্যা যা আছে তা আর থাকত না কখনও।
A legal awareness workshop was held on 16 October at 3:00 PM by Legal Empowerment Bangladesh (LEB), with support from the District Legal Aid Office, Chattogram, at the Amena Bashar Elderly Rehabilitation Centre in Raozan, Chattogram. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the government's legal aid services and the proper application of the Parents' Maintenance Act, 2013. A total of 45 elderly parents from the centre participated in the session. The Parents' Maintenance Act, 2013 of Bangladesh establishes that maintaining parents is not just a moral obligation but also a legal duty. This law mandates that every child must support their parents and extends to the maintenance of grandparents if the parents are absent. The Act includes penalties for any child, spouse, or relative of a child who obstructs the maintenance of parents. Despite the law being enacted in 2013, there remains a significant lack of awareness, contributing to an increase in the number of elderly homes in Bangladesh. The workshop featured District Legal Aid Officer (Senior Assistant Judge) Mr. Ibrahim Khalil as the chief guest, while Mr. Md. Saeed Hasan, Deputy Director of the District Information Office, Chattogram, served as a special guest. The event was presided over by Mr. Mohammad Mohiuddin, a prominent lawyer at the Bangladesh Supreme Court and advisor to Legal Empowerment Bangladesh. Mr. Md. Rakibul Haque, Executive Director of Legal Empowerment Bangladesh, delivered the opening remarks.
